She-Jitsu founder and CEO Jennifer Gray started her company not just as a way to provide jiu-jitsu apparel and self-defense instruction, but also to have a vehicle to share her vision for empowerment for women. She-Jitsu is accomplishing that that goal by promoting jiu-jitsu based self-defense and also offering a unique t-shirt that helps men voice their support for women.
The company offers self-defense Seminars & Camps that give women practical, jiu-jitsu based skills to physically resist attacks and psychological insights into the strategies of attackers in order to help women understand what to expect if they were ever assaulted.
The principles taught in the camps & seminars will help women defend themselves physically against a bigger, stronger opponent, and remain calm during an attack. Women also receive instruction that assists them in setting healthy boundaries that can lower the risk of sexual assault and they get guidance on creating a personal safety plan for the most common types of attacks against women.
The She Jitsu Camps & Seminars are positive courses of action that can empower women to resist attacks. Statistics from the National Sexual Violence Resource Center report that one in five women will be raped while attending college, one in ten women will be assaulted sexually by an intimate partner during their lifetime, and 8% of rapes occur while a woman is at work.
Hosting a camp or seminar, for your female employees, students, your daughter’s dorm floor mates, or just getting together a group of friends for a Ladies’ Night with a twist is one way you can be a part of the movement to reduce the epidemic of sexual violence against women.
Another way is to help promote She Jitsu’s flagship apparel item, the Real Men Empower Women t-shirt.
Jennifer says, “I created the “Real Men Empower Women” t-shirt as an encouragement to both genders–to show how cooperation and not division is key to empowerment. I think it’s important for women to see that there are men out there that support them and want to see them empowered, and most men want to help, they just don’t know how. Wearing the “Real Men Empower Women” t-shirt is one way they can help–they’re saying they support women without even having to say it, and they’re saying it to everyone they meet.”
“I never knew I could make it this far. Now I’m dedicated to empowering women and raising awareness for those who can’t be heard.”
The light is coming. Dream on, my friends
